Our goal is to share our experiences with you and provide our (sometimes brutally) honest opinion.
We write up an honest review of our own experience. Each review is based on the fundamentals of the Flabbergast Factor (explained in more detail below) and is reflective of our own taste levels and expectations.
THE FLABBERGAST FACTOR EXPLAINED
Crucial, yet somewhat intangible. That je ne s’ais quoi. The coming together of the environment and people to create the atmosphere, the feeling and the experience of being in a physical place.
We look for beautiful spaces that transport the guest into another world, interesting and original interiors, excellent finishes and attention to detail.
That feeling of being exceptionally well taken care of. Pleasant, helpful staff that are thinking several steps ahead make a big difference to the overall quality of experience during a trip.
Mattress and pillow softness play a huge part in this scoring (soft, but not too soft), AC strength, as well as curtain density (blackout preferred) and quietness of the room.
For the mid to higher price point hotels, we expect strong amenities (pool, gym or free classes, spa, room service, tours and experiences) as well as little extras such as free water, nice bathroom products and quality food offerings.
Our location scores are based on what makes most sense for the hotel in the context of its surroundings, and the type of trip we would take whilst staying there.
