SUNSET TOWER HOTEL REVIEW:
The Sunset Tower Hotel oozes old Hollywood charm and it’s easy to see why it has upheld its glittering reputation over the years. The iconic West Hollywood art deco building was built in 1929 originally as luxury apartments, housing the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Frank Sinatra, and it remains a go-to celebrity hangout to this day (Jennifer Aniston, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Hannah Waddingham were all spotted during our short stay). If there’s one thing that stands out about this hotel, it’s the staff - the service is truly impeccable. The front desk staff is particularly jaunty and helpful, and the turn-down service each evening is a luxurious touch (hotel slippers and giant cookie for the win!). The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are of a decent size. However, we expected a bit more from the interiors - the decor feels a little bit tired in places, and we didn’t love that the AC was weak and the shower pressure almost non-existent. The Tower Bar restaurant is an experience that some may feel they have to check off the list (no photos, possible celebrity spotting opportunity), but in our opinion this place is over-hyped. It’s far too dark (seriously, you can hardly read the menu without the aid of the trademark boomer iPhone torch on maximum brightness) and the food was disappointing - $46 for a carbonara seems fairly scandalous to us.
